Phil leads Lutz, Florida based Natural Designs Landscaping, ranked 21st among small companies on the Tampa Bay Times Top Workplaces list with 180 full-time employees making at least $12 an hour. Employees receive health insurance, sick leave, vacation time and a full week off in December. Natural Designs Landscaping is a regional full-service landscaping company providing irrigation, lawn and ornamental spraying, and landscape and irrigation installation including hardscape. Phil moved to Florida in 1976 to attend the University of South Florida, then started Natural Designs with his brother, Mike. The company originally did landscaping maintenance and then branched into the nursery business in 1981 when it bought 17 rural acres off Hanna Road in Lutz. The skeletons of the old greenhouses are still there but Natural Designs returned to its roots several years ago and once again concentrates almost exclusively on landscape maintenance.
