In May 1993, urbanization at the southwest corner of the University of Florida campus sparked the formation of a 15-person person planning group. This group drafted a proposal to have what is now the Natural Areas Teaching Lab (NATL) designated as a conservation area. NATL is one of the largest conservation areas on campus.
It has four ecosystems: upland pine, wetlands, upland hardwoods, old-field (areas that are allowed to grow with little agricultural intervention)
On this field trip, Ross Barreto will guide attendees to see the Stormwater Ecological Enhancement Project (SEEP) as well as the natural communities of NATL and explaining to them how these plants can be used in horticultural and landscape uses and what benefits they provide.
