The Stetson University campus is right in the heart of downtown DeLand, and beautiful “wooded” Woodland Blvd runs right through it. Almost all activities take place in or outside the Carlton Union Building (CUB), which serves as the Student Union, and is marked on the map. The Stetson Room upstairs is our seminar site. Take the elevator.
Everyone parks in lots 19 and 20, west of Woodland Blvd and accessed from University Ave & Minnesota Ave.
Wednesday morning Central Florida classics workshop takes place outside the CUB, under the trees. See the “CUB Circle” in green on map to the left (west) of the Carlton Union Building (CUB).
Wednesday morning Meadow Management & Enhancements Workshop takes place at the Volusia Sandhill adjacent to the Gillespie Museum. Attendees must first check in on the front verandah at the CUB.
Lot 11 is used for temporary exhibitor unloading only.
LANDSCAPE HISTORY: Before settlement, DeLand was a vast sandhill ecosystem, covered in Longleaf Pine and grassy meadows. This system was converted to orange groves and town. For a perhaps not entirely accurate but entertaining history of the town’s first landscaping project, planting trees, see this West Volusia Historical Society Facebook post. The town’s early planting project has given Woodland Boulevard, the main street leading to the University, a beautiful arching tree canopy.
